Practices

We see healthy soil as the foundation of our farm. We grow mostly on permanent raised beds, we use hand tools like broad forks to lighten soil compaction and build deeper organic matter. We amend our soils with organic mineral inputs like rock phosphate, gypsum, sulphur, also through several composts both manure and ocean based.  We add vermicompost, volcanic rock dusts, kelp, biochar, and we utilize cover and companion crops. In adding these inputs, when needed, we create the environment and provide the food needed for a healthy soil biome to take off and thrive, supporting strong and healthy plants.

We flower our cannabis in natural sunlight, sometimes adding a little heat in the shoulder seasons. We’ve enjoyed learning what the best time of year is to grow our favorite varieties and are excited to be able to utilize light dep technology on our greenhouse to achieve multiple sun grown harvests annually.

We follow a biological based IPM strategy to manage any bugs and disease that pop up from time to time.  In flowering we favor beneficial insects, a healthy soil biome, good airflow, and beneficial fungi like beauvaria bassiana as well as beneficial bacterias like bacillus and trichoderma species.  We find if we keep a healthy biology in and around the plant, while boosting the plants immune system, then bugs and disease become a much less prevalent issue and are easily managed with monitoring and strategic organic inputs.
